Adolescence is an important transition period between childhood and adulthood. It is an exciting time during which adolescents need to accomplish many developmental tasks. Important emotional, physical, and intellectual changes occur simultaneously during adolescence and can lead to challenges for both teens and parents alike. While adolescents may strive to become more independent, parents are challenged with the task of keeping them safe. At Virginia Psychotherapy Associates we are experienced in treating the issues that can arise during adolescence including anxiety, depression, suicidality, self-harm, academic challenges, social issues, ADHD, self-harm, suicidality, self-esteem struggles, and others. We emphasize the participation of parents during treatment, and coordinate with psychiatrists, psychologists, school personnel, executive function coaches, and others, as needed.
